Carbon Chicken Advances Growth Strategy Through Ozark Retail Accelerator
Carbon Chicken was selected as one of 12 Arkansas companies to participate in the Ozark Retail Accelerator, a program supported by the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) and the University of Arkansas. Designed to help emerging businesses prepare for large-scale retail opportunities, the accelerator connects participants with experienced industry mentors, including former Walmart and Sam’s Club buyers with decades of retail expertise.
The program provided participating companies with direct insight into retail strategy, merchandising, supply chain management and business scaling. For Carbon Chicken, the experience offered more than a pathway to retail shelves – it provided an opportunity to explore how the company’s innovative product could fit into larger sustainability initiatives throughout agricultural supply chains.
Unlike traditional fertilizer products, Carbon Chicken combines composting, biochar infusion and retail-ready packaging into a unique offering designed to improve soil health while delivering environmental benefits. The company believes the product has the potential to help farmers improve productivity, generate additional value from their operation byproducts and contribute to carbon sequestration efforts.
“We just want to be first to market,” said Jody Hardin, CEO and Co-Founder of Carbon Chicken Project. “Nobody's doing exactly what we're doing with biochar and composting. You can't go to a store and buy anything like Carbon Chicken.”
That unique market position drew attention from accelerator mentors, who identified opportunities for the product across multiple retail channels. Discussions throughout the program included potential placement in various retail departments and participation in in-store demonstration programs, like the Sam’s Club roadshow events, where products are showcased directly to consumers. Retailers such as Walmart, Tractor Supply and Atwoods were discussed as potential future markets as the company continues to grow.
Beyond Retail expansion, Carbon Chicken’s long-term vision extends to helping agricultural operations meet sustainability goals. Company leaders explored ways they could support large-scale environmental initiatives, including Scope 3 emissions reduction programs and carbon credit opportunities. By encouraging practices that improve soil health and store carbon, Carbon Chicken aims to create both economic and environmental value throughout the agricultural supply chain.
Carbon Chicken successfully completed the Ozark Retail Accelerator program, gaining valuable retail insight, industry connections and strategic guidance. The experience marked a significant milestone and further positioned the company for future growth opportunities.
